The Central Bank of The Bahamas

Urban Planning & Architectural Design Competition

Downtown Nassau, Bahamas

Description:

The Urban planning follows in the design traditions of the New Urbanism movement which promotes environmentally friendly and walkable neighborhoods, and combines a range of land uses and building types. The urban spaces which are framed by the building architecture are created for both formal and informal public gatherings, and the connections between the spaces are an enjoyable pedestrian experience.

The architectural character of the proposed Central Bank building can be described as a combination of Neo-classical architecture with the stately features of an important Civic building, and Modernist architecture for the minimalist facades of a landmark Commercial building. The Central Bank building will consist of two wings of office space and a Performing Arts Theater developed around a Commercial plaza.

Size:

Central Bank Office Area - 150,000 sq. ft.

Performing Arts Theater - 45,000 sq. ft.
